A lot of times, digital distribution companies are demanding you pay for games BEFORE you even play them. They want you to pay up so they can keep their games profitable. But with the incredible blockbuster hit of XCOM 2, developer Firaxis sat down to think about what they could do to reward current players. They thought about it for a while and came up with the idea of a special in-game item called the “XCom 2 Legacy Pack”, which was available for free to anyone who played the game and defeated the final alien invasion (like the one in the original). And, if players had extra hard earned money, they could buy more.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is an excellent game. It’s turn-based strategy game with an interesting story and fun twists. But unlike other strategy games, you get to use the same characters again, and again, and again unless you start a new game. And while the game has an extensive tutorial, it doesn’t cover all the game’s features, or some of the more advanced techniques you’ll need to know.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a great game, and one of the best strategy games of all time. While a great deal of the appeal of the game comes from the deep stats and customization options, there’s a lot more to it than that. Legends of XCOM is a turn-based strategy game in which players command a team of up to five troops who must confront the alien invasion over the course of a lengthy single-player campaign. The PvP option, in which one of the two sides is under the mental control of the aliens, allows us to compare our troops with other players via the Internet.
The narrative mode in XCOM Legends will enable us to carry on the tale from the previous two games in the series. We XCOMs are the last surviving rebel bastion on the whole world, twenty years after the alien invasion. Earth has a new ruler and lord, and we XCOMs are the only remaining rebel stronghold on the entire planet. Fortunately, several familiar names from the series will return to assist us in this monumental task.
The XCOM Legends combat system is a reduced version of the combat seen in the first two installments in the series. We’ll be able to utilize cover components and move our troops, but the amount of area we’ll have for this will be very limited. Similarly, each of our troops will have a variety of skills and attacks, albeit they will be somewhat less complicated. In other words, rather than engaging in huge half-hour fights, as is customary at XCOM, we will engage in one- or two-minute engagements.
As is customary, we will be able to oversee both our base of operations and our troops in between battles. We’ll utilize a gacha system to attract new members, which we’ll be able to customize and level up over time. Each recruit has a unique set of abilities that may be more or less helpful depending on the kind of opponent we’re up against.
XCOM Legends is a very enjoyable strategy game that provides a far more accessible and less challenging experience than fans of the XCOM series are accustomed to.
