Kyle Kuzma is a versatile player who can play the 3, 4, and 5. His versatility will help him have a breakout season for the Wizards.

Kyle Kuzma is a 22-year-old rookie who was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft. He has been projected to have a breakout season for the Wizards.

Kyle Kuzma, a forward with the Washington Wizards, is a rookie this season. He’s officially in DC to create a name for himself and try to eventually flourish in his short career, not to be the third wheel behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

This is Kuzma’s chance to impress and cement his status as a future All-Star. Gone are the days when he had to alter his game to suit the Los Angeles Lakers on a daily basis. There will be no more pressure on the 26-year-old, just more chances for him to show off and improve his game.

Here are three reasons why Kuzma might be the Wizards’ breakthrough player this season.

Will finally have more offensive chances.

In his first two seasons with the Lakers, Kuzma shown his promise before LeBron joined the team. Not to argue that the arrival of LBJ ruined Kuz’s career, but when The King wasn’t there, the youthful forward was used more on offense. He showed glimpses of his passing abilities, as well as his ability to drive to the basket and even shoot from downtown. This was the same Kuzma that won the NBA Summer League’s Finals MVP award in 2017.

If the Wizards can offer Kuzma more offensive chances this season, there’s a good possibility he’ll be even better than he was with the Lakers in his early years. Bradley Beal is now his mentor, and he has prominent players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rui Hachimura, and Spencer Dinwiddie on hand to assist him.

He is capable of playing the position in which he excels.

Kuzma has proven that he can play power forward, but he didn’t have much of a chance to do so with the Lakers since Davis was there. Kuz possesses the size, quickness, and offensive skills to succeed as a number four. If his three-pointers go in, he can even spread the floor, which is a big positive for the Wizards’ spacing. Because he can fit into any kind of lineup, his flexibility will enable the Wizards to play big and small.

Apart from his offensive development, Kuzma’s defensive development over the last few years has been outstanding. On this end, his IQ has grown significantly, and he sometimes hustles and goes for rebounds and lost ball possessions. He’s the kind of forward who can play 3-D wings, which will be a big plus for the Wizards.

Can be seen without a spotlight

Because he played for the Lakers, Kuzma was constantly the focus of NBA fans on social media. This meant that he had a lot of pressure on him. He was expected to finish third in scoring after LeBron and AD, but he didn’t have the chance to do so. Last season, when the Lakers’ two All-Stars were injured, Kuzma was supposed to lead the team, but he failed to do so since his position was always shifting.

Kuzma’s time with the Wizards will hopefully be fruitful. It would be beneficial to him if he could establish clarity about his position from the start of the season. He will no longer be the center of attention, therefore this may be the greatest opportunity for him to make errors and develop as a player without social media mocking every move he makes.
