Launching on February 28th, 2018, the series will feature talks on topics such as climate change and energy production, digital security and privacy, and more.

The series will honor inventiveness. Entrepreneurship in the Central Coast

THE SANDBOX, Paso Robles’ newest event venue, shared office/coworking space, and entrepreneurial community, will host Creating 805’s inaugural speaker series honoring creative business in October.

Mike Durighello, CEO/Founder of Whalebird Kombucha, will talk on Friday, Oct. 15; Lauren Butler, Co-Founder of Yes Cocktail Co., will speak on Friday, Nov. 19; and Pancho Gomez, Culture Ninja at All Good Products, will speak on Friday, Dec. 17.

With 75 seats available each event, Creating 805’s speaker series will feature networking opportunities as well as free coworking at THE SANDBOX Paso Robles after the speakers’ presentations, allowing local creatives and entrepreneurs to meet, collaborate, and get work done. The speaker series at Creating 805 will be free and accessible to the public. Building 805 will serve as an entrepreneurial center for Central Coast residents who are doing just that: creating the 805. This will be accomplished via events, seminars, and retreats. Creating 805 will continue to develop and improve the entrepreneurial lifeblood of California’s Central Coast by showcasing domestic entrepreneurs and providing them the chance to share their stories, resources, and expertise with local people.

“I spent my late teens and early 20s living in Portland, Oregon; St. Andrews, Scotland; Cape Town, South Africa; and Minneapolis, Minnesota—cities renowned for their creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation,” Olivia Wickstrom, Creating 805 creator and Morro Bay native, said. At the age of 26, I returned to the Central Coast as a self-employed marketer and entrepreneur. Since my 2012 departure, I’ve been amazed by the creativity and ingenuity in San Luis Obispo County, but I’ve been unable to locate the center, the pulse, or the lifeblood of it. My desire to elevate the tales of local businesses and my passion for community building sprouted a seed in my mind, and Creating 805 was born.”

Wickstrom will launch a Kickstarter campaign in September with a $4,047 target to assist Creating 805 register an LLC and pay all first-year fees and taxes, buy single-day event insurance for 2021 events, and buy event materials (COVID-19 safety measures i.e. masks and hand sanitizer, coffee urns, disposable cups, coffee accouterments).

“This is just the beginning of our speaker series. We will be able to increase Creating 805’s services with the help of our community. We’re excited to continue serving the Central Coast with creative entrepreneur courses, workshops, and retreats,” Wickstrom says. Four volunteers will be recruited each event by Creating 805 to assist with check-in, participant inquiries, and venue set-up and tear-down.
